Illinois & CDC Mandates

Good afternoon, Mascoutah Community,

As a result of Friday’s most recent developments, (see details below) Mascoutah CUSD 19 will continue our current practice of masks being optional in our schools. In addition, the CDC dropped the mask mandate on school buses. As a result effective Monday, Mascoutah CUSD 19 will make masks optional on district buses.

Governor J.B. Pritzker issued a statement expressing gratitude for the Illinois Supreme Court’s decision and the new rules easing mask-wearing that were issued on Friday by the Centers for Disease Control. He is withdrawing the Executive Order that required students and staff in Illinois schools to wear masks, effective Monday, February 28, 2022.

The CDC made the change to align with updated guidance that no longer recommends universal indoor mask-wearing in K-12 schools and early education settings in areas with a low or medium COVID-19 community-level transmission. The CDC also announced that it no longer will require that individuals wear masks on buses or vans operated by public or private school systems, including early care and education/childcare programs.

Enjoy the rest of your weekend as we look forward to better weather.

Superintendent of Mascoutah School District #19
