Your School for Excellence

A New Look for the District Websites

Starting March 1, the school district will be using a new website provider: Apptegy. The district web addresses will not change. You’ll still find helpful information, upcoming events, policies, fun pictures, digital flyers, and so much more at the same web addresses but with a fresh new look:!

Also, after the March 1 conversion you will no longer be able to access information from the SchoolMessenger app. Stay on top of all things at MES and download the official Mascoutah School District mobile app from Apple or Android.  We will no longer be emailing the school monthly newsletter and menu to parents. You will find these only on the website and the mobile app under “News” and “Dining”. We will still print the menus and these will be available in the office in the Information Center.

Kindergarten Registration 2019-2020

All children 5 years old on or before September 1, 2019, are eligible for Kindergarten 2019-2020. Kindergarten Registration is Thursday, April 25, 2019, and will be held at the District Administrative Support Center at 421 W. Harnett St., Mascoutah, IL 62258. Representatives from each elementary school will be present to register incoming kindergarten students. An online kindergarten registration form will become available on the website at a later date along with detailed information. By filling out the online form, you will be completing the first step of the registration and will help to decrease your wait time on April 25, 2019. However, you still need to attend the formal registration in person on Thursday, April  25, 2019, from 8:30am 5:00pm, to complete the registration.

The following items will be required to register:

  • Certified Birth Certificate (no copies)
  • Federal or Military Photo ID of registering parent/guardian

This phase of registration is an essential part of our planning process for next year and your attendance on this day is very important to us. If this date does not work with your schedule, promptly call the school office to make other arrangements. When you come to registration, you will sign up for a one hour Kindergarten Screening session. Screenings for new MES kindergarten students will take place at MES on Monday, May 13. Check the school website for registration updates and important information.

5th Grade Prepares for Middle School

The school counselor from Mascoutah Middle School will visit MES in March to talk with the current 5th grade students. During the visit Mrs. Brooks will talk with the students about what a typical day at MMS looks like, required 6th grade classes, and explain band, pe and chorus options. Your student will be bringing home an important survey regarding next year’s scheduling and registration. Please make sure to complete and return it even if you are moving out of the district or are unsure of next year’s plans. Our 5th grade students will visit and tour MMS on Wednesday, May 15 at 8:45am-10:30am. 6th Grade Orientation for parents and students will be held on Thursday, May 16, at 6:30pm.

IAR Testing

All students in grades 3-5 take the federally required assessment every spring. These assessments help us understand how our students are growing academically, compared to their peers across the state. This year, the English language arts and math assessment for grades 3-5 is called the Illinois Assessment of Readiness or IAR. Please do not schedule any appointments or trips during this window of testing. A letter about the test is going home with students in grades 3-5 next week. Our testing schedule is as follows:

Testing Schedule:

April 2 -April 11:  All 3rd, 4th, and 5th Grade students

April 1:  Some IEP and 504 students with accommodations  may start testing

Help your child be at his or her best for standardized test taking with these tips:

  • Get a good night's sleep.
  • Prepare a healthy breakfast.
  • Practice stress reducing techniques with your kids.
  • Have a positive attitude.

Read, Right & Run

Fifty-nine MES 5th grade students have been participating in the Read, Right, and Run program every Wednesday after school since January. This program encourages reading, doing good deeds, and physical activity. Many MES staff members have also been attending R.R.R. and working out with the students. R.R.R. students will take a field trip on Thursday, March 21 to Forest Park to practice for their final run. The kids will conclude their season on Saturday, April 6 at the Go! St. Louis Marathon & Family Fitness Run in Forest Park. They will run the final 2 miles of their 26.2 mile challenge (detailed information will be sent home). Congratulations R.R.R. participants!  If your R.R.R. student would like additional training, please sign up for the Mascoutah Color Run- March 30!

PBIS Color Run-5K Walk/Run & Youth Run
