Pre-K Enrollment & Registration

Pre-kindergarten Program Screening

Thank you for your interest in a pre-k screening for your child. We have developed an alternative process to complete screenings remotely to help us gather information about your child and determine his or her eligibility for the At-risk Pre-k program. Below is an outline of this process and the purpose for each step. You may follow the steps below to complete your child’s screening.

Please complete all steps and submit all necessary information by 8:00am on August 13 in order to have your child considered for acceptance in the pre-k program.

STEP 1 - Online Pre-k Screening Parent Packet: Complete an online informational packet about your child and family. This information helps us get to know your child and family. It also provides us with some of the necessary information we need to determine your child’s at-risk score, which is used for program eligibility. Select the appropriate link below to complete the informational packet.

STEP 2 - ASQ: Visit our ASQ website to complete the Ages and Stages Questionnaire (ASQ) to assess your child’s developmental progress. Please note that completing this portion will require you to do some activities with your child, so we advise not waiting until the last day to complete it. You will be completing both the ASQ-3 and ASQ-SE2.

STEP 3 - Exit Interview: Once you have completed the “Online Pre-k Screening Parent Packet” and ASQ, you will be contacted to schedule your exit interview. All exit interviews will be held via phone with a pre-k team member on August 20, 2020. This interview will include a review and discussion of your child’s screening results. There will be additional questions during the interview to help us get to know your child and determine his or her at-risk score.

STEP 4: You will receive an email regarding your child’s eligibility for the At-risk pre-k program by September 1.

Each one of your children is very important to us. Steps 1 and 2 must be completed and income/public benefits verification submitted by 8am on August 13th. If your child is found eligible for one of our pre-k classrooms, you will receive a formal invitation and directions to register your child at the school he or she will be attending. Placement of eligible students in the morning or afternoon session is based on district transportation and program recommendation. Parent requests for morning or afternoon session are not accepted.

You will need your child’s original certified birth certificate (not the hospital certificate) and proof of residency when you register. Your child will also need a current physical completed by an Illinois doctor and up-to-date shot records in order to begin the program. Mascoutah Registration Requirements

Income and Public Benefits Verification

You will need to email or mail the following documents.

  • *Income and Public Assistance Verification Documents
    • Household Income: verification may include two most recent pay stubs, most recent tax return, most recent W-2, or a verification letter from employer.
    • Medicaid card: must be in the parent’s name (if applicable)
    • SNAP: Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program formerly known as Food Stamps (if applicable)
    • WIC: Women, Infants, and Children (if applicable)
    • TANF: Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (if applicable)
    • CCAP: Child Care Assistance Program (if applicable)
    • Housing Subsidy (if applicable)

*Income verification is required in order to have your child considered for eligibility in the pre-kindergarten program at Wingate or Scott Elementary. If income is not provided, your child may still be screened but will not be considered for pre-k.

Pre-k Program and Screening: General Information

Our program is an at-risk program. Children are ranked in order of need to fill the program. If you are interested in the pre-k program, we will utilize the results of the formal screening tool (ASQ), as well as risk factors identified during an Exit Interview to determine your child’s placement on the ranked list. There is a priority to take four-year-old children in the program, since those children will be eligible to begin kindergarten during the fall of 2021.

The screening results and paperwork will be used to consider your child for the 2020-2021 pre-kindergarten program only. You will receive an email that indicates whether or not your child has been accepted into the pre-kindergarten program. Parents should expect to receive their email by September 1. If your child has been placed on a waiting list, we will contact you if and when an opening becomes available. This could happen anytime during the school year. Please let us know as soon as possible if you are not interested in having your child placed on the waiting list.

Mascoutah School District has four pre-kindergarten classrooms housed at Wingate Elementary and Scott Elementary School. Our pre-k program is an at-risk program. Wingate Elementary is part of the Preschool for All program and Scott Elementary is part of the Title I pre-k program. The pre-k program offers a morning and afternoon session at both buildings. Currently, children that live on Scott Air Force Base are eligible to attend the pre-k program at Scott Elementary School. Children that live within the Mascoutah and Wingate Elementary School boundaries are eligible to attend the pre-k program at Wingate Elementary School. These locations are subject to change based on student enrollment and space availability.

Instruction & Assessment

The pre-k program uses developmentally appropriate instruction to help our young students learn through exploration and discovery, interactive play, modeling, song, and a variety of hands-on opportunities. The pre-k daily schedule includes play-based centers, gross motor activity, whole group lessons, and snack. Parents are considered an active part of their child’s education and are welcome to volunteer in their child’s classroom, attend parent education activities, and participate in field trips and parent/child activities throughout the school year. Our teachers foster parent communication through open communication, a weekly newsletter, and fall, spring, and end-of-the-year parent/teacher conferences.

Children in the pre-k program are assessed using the Early Learning Scale (ELS). The ELS is an online observation-based assessment that helps teachers evaluate student progress in four domain areas (math/science, social-emotional/social studies, language and literacy, and physical development) aligned with current early learning standards and expectations.


PRE-K ONLINE REGISTRATION

Complete the online Pre-Kindergarten registration if you received notification that your child was accepted into the program. Parents or guardians will fall into one of the following two categories:

1. PARENTS OR GUARDIANS NEW TO THE SCHOOL DISTRICT

Parents or guardians who are new to the school district and are enrolling a student into Pre-Kindergarten for the upcoming school year will have to create a Qmlativ Family Access account by accessing the New Families to Mascoutah School District 19 form.

Once done, please log in to your Qmlativ Family Access account. Once logged in, go to Family Access to complete the 20-21 Pre-K Only Registration form (click on the dropdown arrow next to the house icon and choose New Student Enrollment). Please use the date "08/13/2020 Thursday" as the Expected Enrollment Date when completing the online form.

2. PARENTS OR GUARDIANS WHO HAVE OR HAVE HAD STUDENTS ENROLLED IN THE SCHOOL DISTRICT

Parents or guardians who have or have had students enrolled in the school district and are enrolling a student into Pre-Kindergarten for the upcoming school year will have access to an online form. Please log in to your Qmlativ Family Access account. Once logged in, go to Family Access to complete the 20-21 Pre-K Only Registration form (click on the dropdown arrow next to the house icon and choose New Student Enrollment). Please use the date "08/13/2020 Thursday" as the Expected Enrollment Date when completing the online form.


ONLINE REGISTRATION ADDITIONAL FORMS

In addition you will complete the Special Needs Form during the online registration process. You may print, complete this form, take a picture or scan it, and then upload it to the online Pre-K Registration Form. Or, if you have a Gmail account, you can open it in Google Docs, make a copy, electronically complete the form, save as a PDF or print the form (take a picture or scan it), and then upload it to the online Pre-K Registration Form (please do not request editing access; make your own copy).

Also you will complete the Home Language Survey during the online registration process. You may print, complete this form, take a picture or scan it, and then upload it to the online Pre-K Registration Form. Or, if you have a Gmail account, you can open it in Google Docs, make a copy, electronically complete the form, save as a PDF or print the form (take a picture or scan it), and then upload it to the online Pre-K Registration Form (please do not request editing access; make your own copy).

Finally you will complete the Impact Aid Form during the online registration process. You may print, complete this form, take a picture or scan it, and then upload it to the online Pre-K Registration Form. Or, if you have a Gmail account, you can open it in Google Docs, make a copy, electronically complete the form, save as a PDF or print the form (take a picture or scan it), and then upload it to the online Pre-K Registration Form (please do not request editing access; make your own copy).


REQUIRED ITEMS

  • Certified Birth Certificate (originals only)
  • State or Military Photo ID of registering parent/guardian
  • Any up-to-date Health Records including immunizations
