MMS 7th graders had to create a game using probability for their end of unit project. They had to have two events in their game and a minimum of 10 possible outcomes. We hosted a Probability Carnival yesterday for the 6th graders to attend to try their luck at some of the games!

MMS had a special 6th grade visitor today from Hassloch Germany. He joined Social Studies, Science, and PE. He knew some English, but Google Translate helped with communication too. The students were very excited to get to know Paul, even though it was just a brief visit of a few hours.

Siera Taylor, 8th grader at MMS, recently received the Illinois Principal Association (IPA) Student leadership award. This award is given annually to celebrate students who have exhibited exemplary character, leadership skills, and academic success. Siera's achievements in these areas were recognized, making her a standout among the many outstanding nominees. Her dedication to her studies, participation in extracurricular activities, and volunteer work in her community are just a few examples of what set her apart. The award acknowledges her accomplishments and serves as a testament to her hard work and commitment to excellence.
Siera is the daughter of Jeff and Jamie Taylor of Mascoutah.

A memorial flower garden was created in honor of MMS teacher, Mrs. Elisha Behrman, who passed away earlier this year. Many staff members pitched in to use mostly reclaimed materials and school colors to create the memorial. Students and staff brought in so many wonderful varieties of flowers for the garden. Students from many classes helped plant the flowers. A painted rock garden is being placed next to the flower garden for students to decorate rocks with positive messages and images. Some seating options (to also be made from reclaimed materials) are in the works for students and staff to be able to sit and enjoy the space. 6th grade social studies teacher, Mr. Hilpert helped coordinate the project. He appreciates that this was a true team effort from staff and students to come together in honor of a beloved staff member. Additional projects are being discussed to also honor her.

Congratulations to MMS's 6th grade Students of the Month and Cool Characters for the month of April!

Mascoutah Middle School celebrated the "Week of the Military Child" with a schoolwide assembly. The assembly included the High School AFJROTC presenting the Colors, the Mascoutah Middle School band playing the National Anthem, contest winners for a drawing, writing and coloring contest, and a slideshow of students and staff connected to the Military. This was a great way for MMS to celebrate and honor our students and their families for their service and sacrifice for our country.

MMS 8th grade AVID students toured the prestigious Washington University & enjoyed lunch courtesy of El Gordito.

MMS students spent some time picking up trash this week. Challenge yourself to go
outside over the weekend and do something nice for the planet like picking up
trash or planting some flowers or a tree. Take care of the Earth and Each Other!

Today MMS celebrated EARTH DAY!
The sixth grade had a ‘Whale’ of a good time. Mr. Amann and Mrs. Jackson and the entire sixth grade class participated in “Entering the Environmental Whale”. Students got to go into the giant whale (the length of a basketball court), and discuss ways to limit ocean pollution and how to save our planet.
Remember, the Earth is something we all have in common.

MMS 8th grade Algebra students went to the park Friday to find parabolas in action! Students had to take measurements and selfies with their parabolas. This week they will be completing math models for the parabolas they found.
